A. Hypoglycemia unawareness is a condition in which you can pass out without ever knowing your blood glucose levels were low. It tends to be more common in people who have had Diabetes for many years. Hypoglycemia unawareness is also more likely to occur in people who have neuropathy, are on tight glucose control, or who take certain heart or high blood pressure medications.
A person's symptoms of hypoglycemia can change over time. If this is the case, you may not recognize a reaction because it feels different.
These changes are yet another good reason to check your blood sugar level often, and to alert your friends and family to your symptoms of hypoglycemia. Treat low or dropping glucose levels even if you feel fine. And be sure to tell your physician if your blood glucose ever drops below 50 mg/dl without any symptoms.
