Medicare and Diabetic Supplies
Whether or not you realize this, Medicare does cover the cost of your diabetic testing supplies, if you have Medicare Part B Medical coverage. As a leading provider for diabetic testing supplies, American Diabetes Services offers information on Medicare Part B Guidelines for diabetic testing supplies to help diabetics understand what diabetic testing supplies are covered under Medicare.
Medicare Part B Guidelines states that the following are Medicare-Approved diabetic testing supplies:
- Glucometer
- Diabetic testing strips
- Lancets
- Lancing Devices
- Meter batteries
- Control Solution
- Vacuum Erection Pumps
Medicare covers these diabetic testing supplies at 80% of their fee schedule after your annual deductible. Annual deductibles are $100.00 and apply to all of your medical costs, such as doctor's visits, etc.
Supplemental insurance to Medicare usually pays for the 20% co-pay, and in some cases covers your annual deductible also.
If you do not have a supplemental insurance policy and are on a limited income, you may be eligible for our Financial Assistance Hardship Program. If accepted, American Diabetes Services will waive the 20% Medicare co-payment.
"Accepting Assignment" means that American Diabetes Services will not charge you any dollar amount above Medicare's allowed rate.M
Does this mean that if you have Medicare and diabetes, that all your diabetic related expenses are covered? No. Medicare Part B Guidelines states that Medicare does not cover any diabetic supplies they consider to be "prescription" items, this includes insulin and syringes.
